Hedge plants are easy to grow and form an attractive boundary more quickly than many gardeners imagine.

As well as providing structure, shelter and privacy to the garden they can also be perfect for wildlife, and particularly nesting birds.

They can be formal, such as clipped Buxus (box), Taxus (yew) and Fagus (beech) or informal with colourful foliage or flowers, like Viburnum or Crataegus (hawthorn).

Laurel, and conifers such as Leyland cypress, are also popular choices and make attractive and effective hedging.
